PINK DOLPHIN HOTSPOT 6 DAYS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE ROB / MEGAN - Denver Colorado - USA My 21-year-old daughter and I just arrived home after spending 5 nights / 6 days on the Pink Dolphin Hotspot. We camped at Zancudo Lake (2 nights) and Lagarto Cocha River (2 nights) followed by one night at lodge (owned by friends of Fabian) – Fabian, our guide, was kind enough to arrange the last night at this lodge so we didn’t need to travel as long on the last day to return to Lago Agrio as we had to get back to Quito that evening. Fabian, was our guide for the tour but my understanding is that he isn’t commonly the primary guide – due to COVID he served as our guide. We also had a boat captain (he went by four names – William, Darwin, Charles, Paco), chef (Tamara) and an assistant ; two of whom are also guides. So in total we had four “staff” for only the two of us as we were the only guests. Let me start by stating emphatically that the tour itinerary, tour personnel, and camping accommodations exceeded our expectations in every way. Fabian is a master organizer and wonderful person. Before the tour, Fabian was responsive to my e-mails and provided answers to many questions (best way to get to Lago Agrio, where to stay before the tour, what would be provided for camping, etc.). As a result, I felt well prepared. Fabian is genuinely interested in educating guests about the Ecuadorian Amazon, the animals, and its many people and cultures. He always addressed every question with honesty and openness and didn’t shy away from more controversial issues like local politics. As for the tour, it was fantastic. Having four expert spotters helped tremendously to find the animals. We saw five species of monkeys, many pink dolphins, two species of Caiman, birds birds birds and more birds (my favorite being scarlet Macaws and toucans), bats, baby scorpions, beautiful butterflies, and spiders (including a tarantula living in one of our bathrooms). Unfortunately, we did not see any snakes, frogs, or otters. It seemed that the deeper down river we went the more animals we saw so I highly suggest taking this tour that puts you on the border with Peru. Other highlights included fishing piranha (we managed to catch three different species), searching for the red eyes of Caimans at night, visiting a Secoya village where we made Yuka bread from scratch, navigating narrow channels with a motorized canoe too large to fit but somehow it did, and trading coca cola for cooking oil with the Ecuadorian border patrol. Most activities require the boat so be prepared for lots of canoe rides. The food was terrific and plentiful. Tamara is an excellent cook and often provided local dishes for us to try. You won’t go hungry. Fabian brings plenty of gear so you are pampered while camping (e.g. French press for coffee, drinking water beside our tents, the occasional beer or “pina colada”). He also will let you know what to wear and provides rubber boots for you to use. The captain is an expert navigator and safety is his primary concern. The campsites are open-air structures with excellent roofs so you don’t get wet when it rains. They are spacious and comfortable although most days you won’t spend much time at the camp sites. Both sites had working toilets and one site (Lagarto Cocha River) had a functional shower with hot water – this site is only six months old and has a care taker and his family living there so it’s well taken care of. I should also mention that I was initially a bit leery of swimming in the water so Fabian made a makeshift shower at the first campsite (Zancudo Lake). I felt bad because we ended up swimming and didn’t use the shower – luckily the crew did. A few considerations: 1) The water was quite high when we went (early July). This means that navigating the rivers is easier but spotting water animals is more difficult. We did one night hike and I would have liked to do another but between rain storms and high water it was difficult to find opportunities to do so. 2) Immediately before this tour, we were in the Galapagos where animals are plentiful and easy to see. Don’t expect this in the Amazon. The animals are not accustomed to people so spotting them is difficult and often from afar (bring good binoculars). You may only get a short glimpse so be ready. 3) While Fabian makes every effort to provide you with comfort, this is still camping in the wilderness with lots of travel. The tour may not be for everyone – I’m 50-something and I hadn’t camped in a decade and I felt comfortable but expect to be sweaty, somewhat dirty, and ladened with repellent and sun screen. 4) What you see and do is governed by the elements of the outdoors. If it rains, there isn’t much to see – one morning we were going to adventure out when the skies opened up so we had to delay our start to that day. 5) You will spend time setting up and taking down camps. But listening to the sounds of the jungle in a tent with no one else nearby is an amazing experience. When travelling between sites you are still looking for animals so this didn’t feel like you’re missing a day. 6) We brought plenty of bug spray but I only found the mosquitos to be plentiful the last night at the lodge – sand flies were bad everywhere but bug spray isn’t effective for preventing their bites – expect to be itchy. 7) Tipping is appreciated but with only two of us and four crew, it was more than I anticipated yet they all deserved gratuities. 8) Getting to Lago Agrio isn’t easy. We rented a car partly because we spent a few days near Cotopaxi before driving to Lago Agrio. Fabian provided secure parking. The drive is windy, the road will have sudden sections of gravel / potholes, and some drivers are crazy but the scenery is beautiful. On the way back, the highway was closed for several hours because of protesters. My understanding is that the road closes frequently for various reasons. 9) Speaking Spanish helps to interact with the local communities and the boat captain. Luckily, my daughter is fluent but I wish I was so I could have interacted more. 10) Make sure you bring extra chargers (all the sites have power for a few hours each evening but don’t rely on this as you may be out doing an evening event), good binoculars and strong flash lights (aka torches).

DON’T HESITATE TO BOOK A TRIP WITH BEST JUNGLE ECUADOR

Me and my husband booked a 6-day trip to the lagarto cocha river which is the most remote you can imagine. We booked this tour because we wanted to have the highest chance to spot the amazing birds and other animals in this remote area and we wanted to have camping included.
It was much more than that.... I didn't realize how much more remote the tour area is located and how much more remote we got to during the trip. We ended up camping at Peru as the river is the border and stayed there for 5 nights. We were able to spot a lot of beautiful animals in big groups like Macau, squirrel monkeys and great egrets.
Freddy was our guide who has a lot of experience and besides teaching us about the nature he also told us a lot about the live in Ecuador (for indigenous people and non-indigenous people)
Eric the local guide from the indigenous Quechua community close by the border, has great spotting skills, knows a lot about the plants and trees and how to use them. Both their hospitality skills were great.
Accommodation is incredibly comfortable and luxurious for such a remote place. We had a spacious tent with mattress and bedding and is beautifully located inside a traditional hat with roof, the food is great.
I loved to see how the mission of Fabian is practised, which means he is involving the indigenous communities along the route of the trips to make the trips more unforgettable.
I can keep going... but in short I would recommend this trip and Freddy as a guide too for anybody who likes a remote adventure without other tourists and who dares to live a bit of Amazon life which might get frustrated by a couple of mosquito's here and there or a tropical rain shower.

 AN INCREDIBLE 4 DAYS

This was a truly amazing experience! As nature lovers, visiting the Amazon was a major part of our trip to Ecuador, to Cuyabeno Reserve and, in particular, our guide Fabian, exceeded anything we could have expected! Fabian took us on jungle walks and canoe trips, with the latter allowing us to get to remote areas and observe wildlife quietly. We saw river dolphins, toucans, parrots, deer, lizards, frogs, leaf cutter ants, and many other unique species. Throughout this, Fabian was able to provide details and depth on the species we saw and the Amazon ecosystem more generally. Notably, the groups are small which allows some flexibility in schedule and guides to be attentive to guest interests and questions. Beyond the nature, we were also pleasantly surprised by the accommodations. He chose for us a simple but comfortable Indigenous style Lodge, including some warm water for showers. Additionally, it is hard to emphasize how wonderful the meals were; they were fresh, varied, delicious, and of generous size. We also enjoyed welcome cocktails. A final unique and possibly defining quality of the experience as the integration of the local indigenous community, this provides the community opportunities and was a wonderful part of our stay as well.

The best travel experience we ´ve ever had!! 6 D paddling trip

This trip exceeding all of our expectations! We chose the 6 days/5-night paddling tour and opted to paddle our own canoe because we wanted something a little more adventurous/challenging. We stayed in lodges and camped on our way. Fabian was the absolute best guide! We saw pink dolphins, pirhanas, macaws, toucans, monkeys, and more! It was incredible to be on the river for so many days and Fabian was always making sure we were getting to do what we wanted to do (like when we felt like just relaxing when we had the chance, we got to relax). The food at the lodges and campsites on the way were great! I really can’t say enough great things about Fabian, Additionally, people can take the 6 days/5 night tour and have other people paddle the canoe for them if they want, so if you don’t want to paddle, no problem! They also have many other tours of different lengths. We’ve done a lot of traveling over the years but this was easily our favourite experience we’ve ever had! Wish we could have done it longer! If you’re looking for a fun, exciting, and authentic adventure in the Amazon, book this trip!

INCREDIBLE PADDLING TOUR ON CUYABENO RIVER

We did the Ultimate Paddling Adventure - Cuyabeno 6 Days Tour and had an amazing Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest experience. We had a private tour with Fabian and the two of us paddling for 5 days in a Canadian style canoe. Fabian was a super guide and a really friendly character, he speaks great English and we felt safe all the time.

He could spot wildlife we would never have seen ourselves. We spotted an anaconda, pink dolphins, monkeys, ant eater, otter, turtles, lizards, sloth, and loads of birds...to name a few. We did loads of activities like swimming in the lagoon from the canoe, fishing for piranha, night wildlife spotting treks and motor-canoeing, bird watching tower, equator monument, parrot clay lick, and yucca bread making.

We camped 2 nights along the river bank on our adventure to the lodge. The campsites were really well set up by Fabian’s crew to make them comfortable in the rainforest and we swam every evening in the river. The final night were at a basic but comfortable lodge. Everyday great food and drinks were served including great caipirinhas! Mateo was a MasterChef and served up various local dishes.
Fabian was not only a great river guide but he also helped us plan the rest of our trip in Ecuador and he suggested we stoped in Papallacta thermal pools on our way to Lago Agrio where we were picked up by Fabian at our hotel.

We would highly recommend this tour for a chance to see the wildlife in the Cuyabeno Reserve up close. Paddling in a canoe means no loud motor noises to scare off the animals! And you’ll be in the best hands with Fabian and his crew!

PINK RIVER DOLPHINS, THE AMAZON AND MUCH MORE

We had no idea what to expect and every experience was better than we could have imagined. My husband and I didn't stay in a lodge, we did the 6-day 5-night Pink Dolphin Hotspot canoe trip. We saw the pink dolphins and swam with them. We saw river otters, caiman, and turtles. We saw more parrots and toucans and other birds than we could count, all expertly spotted by Fabian, our indigenous guide Freddy, and our canoe captain.
Some days we went on a journey with the motorized canoe, others we paddled the light canoe to look for other types of wildlife. A few times we hiked and saw creepy crawlies and tasted hearts of palm, papaya, and other things straight from the tree or ground, including the amazing lemon ant. One day we canoed to the Peru side of the river and made yucca bread with some indigenous women, helping with every step of the way.
The food was fresh and fantastic. Fabian and the cook catered to our vegan diet. We ate some amazing Ecuadorian fruits and vegetables and even learned the wonderful custom of putting popcorn in soup! The plantains and yucca were delicious and plentiful.
In all of our travels this is one of the best trips we have done. We are not people who take tours but that is the only way to get to this remote part of the Amazon Rainforest. And it is more than worth it. If you are thinking of staying in a lodge reconsider and take this wonderful canoe trip. If you are considering this trip stop waiting and book it!
We cannot thank Fabian and his wonderful crew enough!

THE BEST EXPERIENCE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AMAZON

We did the 5 days/4 nights tour. It was of our best tour ever. Everything is perfectly organised and the indigenous staff is lovely (and the food is great). We had the chance of seeing a lot of wildlife such as sloths, toucans, macaws, monkeys, dolphins, piranhas, tarantulas and many other. Fabian, the guide, is funny and very knowledgeable about the rainforest. The best part was that there are no other human beings around so for five days we were really in the jungle. The Camping was great as well, perfectly organised by the staff.
